Editor's note:
China was a somewhat touchy subject for Comrade Stalin at this time. He was blamed by some political rivals for counseling the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to avoid a break with Jiang Kaishi (Chiang Kai-shek) in 1925-1927. Jiang distrusted the CCP anyways and smashed their urban cadres in 1927. Although the CCP survived in some rural areas under Mao Zedong, its recovery did not really begin until the Japanese invasion of 1937 diverted (and weakened) Jiang's power.
