THE VERDICT OF THE PEOPLE

The bayonets of the guard...
We are in the October Hall.
The judges' table.
The steel of the prosecutors' phrases:
"So how much did you
Take from the Germans
In order to betray the Motherland --
Yet again?"
And the malice in their eyes
flashed and faded.
And the defendants do not look into the room:
"Yes, we added a little glass to the butter..."
"Yes.  I ordered the killing of Gorky..."
"I took money -- for spying in the Reichswehr..."

Terror...
Wrecking...
Treason...
Poison...
They sit, like trapped animals,
They speak in turn.
Chernov, Yagoda, Rosengoltz, Bukharin.
And here the features of human faces
are already melting into
monstrous, diabolical masks that
you see involuntarily before you.
And in the dark shadow
there stood up behind them Trotsky,
Judas-Trotsky, our sworn enemy,
who everywhere planted
with a bandit hand
sabotage, terror, and espionage.
They wanted to reduce to ruins,
to hand over to the enemy, to demolish from above,
the happy kolkhozes of the Ukraine,
the rich gardens of Uzbekistan.
Keeping in their pocket the barrel of a revolver,
They destroyed with secret poison
Those with whom they sat, smiling alongside,
Those who led the country to new victories...

And behind the walls of the room
is the vast Soviet country.
She already has spoken her verdict.
She lives, grows, works.
A free people cannot be sold,
They cannot be enslaved again.
We hear the awesome
Verdict of the people:
