Emile Zola's article "J'accuse!" exposes the railroading of Capt. Alfred Dreyfus by antisemites in the French army. In a dress-rehearsal for German Nazism, France would teeter on the edge of civil war for several years, but her soul would ultimately be saved.
9 Nov 1989 -- "Freedom Day"
The Berlin Wall is opened, heralding freedom's triumph in the Cold War. The Berlin Wall, more than anything else, symbolized what the struggle against Communism was all about.
