Middlesex County MA wastes money prosecuting street preacher

Itinerant street preacher James Gills, ranting last fall at Framingham State College, was prosecuted by Middlesex County DA Martha Coakley's office for "disturbing the peace." District Judge Paul F. LoConto threw the case out last month, and his decision is likely to stick. Complainants' real problems seemed to be with the political content (rabid right) of Gills's rant, rather than generic questions of excessive noise, etc. Gills did, however, unlike our beloved Corbin, exchange obscenities with hecklers.

The story appeared in a column by Adrian Walker in the "Boston Globe," Sat 15 Jul 2000, "Metro" p. B1.
